Network Tariff Reviews reveal $3.5 million in potential savings for customers

ERM Staff conducting Network Tariff REviews

ERM Power has completed the latest round of customer network tariff reviews and Steve Rogers, Executive General Manager Energy Retail, is urging customers to check their inboxes for potential savings.

Network charges (tariffs) make up a significant portion (approximately 33%) of a large customer’s total energy bill. It’s important customers regularly check the tariff structure is right for their business.

Potential savings on the table

“In this round of network tariff reviews, we’ve identified $3.5m worth of savings for our large customers. $2.1m of the identified savings have been taken up, which is fantastic, but there is still $1.4 million left on the table that could be saved,” he says.

In some instances, ERM has identified hundreds of thousands of dollars of potential savings for customers through the complimentary service.

Savings can be reinvested

“Once customers understand that these are real savings we’re talking about, they’re very appreciative. Some customers have reinvested their savings into further energy efficiency solutions. This saves them even more money on electricity costs,” says Steve.

“In fact, over the last few years we’ve identified over $20m^ in estimated potential savings for our customers through this service.”

Here to help

Steve says ERM provides this service to customers because it recognises that network tariffs are complex and difficult to understand.

“Many businesses may not look at their network tariffs as they assume they can’t be changed or don’t have the skills and expertise to conduct their own review. Not getting your tariffs right could be having a significant cost impact on your energy bill,” says Steve.

Reviews take into account 12 months of historical actual usage data for each large customer. This is carefully matched against the complex eligibility rules for each tariff.

An easy change

“Each customer we run a review on is contacted and notified of the results by email from their account manager. All you have to do is say ‘yes’ and we’ll arrange the tariff change through the distributor on your behalf.*”

With $1.4m still left of the table, ERM is following up customers who haven’t  yet responded with a ‘yes’ to implement the tariff change.*

If a network tariff change is approved by the Distributor, you may be locked into the new tariff for a period of time.
