Teys Australia Case Study
About Teys Australia
Teys is an innovative Australian food business with a strong national supply network and global reach, and more than 70 years’ experience in the beef industry value chain.
One of Teys Australia’s key feedlots in Condamine, on the Western Darling Downs of Queensland, houses 30,000 cattle. The property’s feedlot includes a high-power feed distribution system which was employing a large amount of electricity each day to efficiently mill grain to feed the cattle.
As part of Teys Australia’s commitment to industry leading sustainability initiatives, they wanted to install solar power at the feedlot to reduce the energy costs and greenhouse gas emissions without sacrificing efficiency. The business set clear, measurable targets to reduce their environmental impact, demonstrating true leadership when it comes to adopting innovative renewable energy management solutions within their industry.
The ERM Approach
ERM Power partnered with Solgen Energy Group to provide an objective and robust solar energy recommendation. A tailored, engineered solar energy solution was designed, taking into account the location and form of the structures on the property and the environmental conditions such as soil conditions, tree locations, and weather patterns.
Roof, shed and ground-mounted solar systems were ultimately installed.
ERM Power proposed tier 1 Trina Mono Crystalline modules with a Solaredge Optmiser and inverters. Optimisers, which allow Teys to monitor panel performance for maintenance, were installed to mitigate for the dry conditions and constant impact of thoroughfare of cattle on the property. These offer remote level monitoring and both the inverters and optimisers are certified for ammonia resistance with DC protection.
The solar farm has been a huge win for our facility and the local community. It’s allowed us to reduce grid electricity by 50 per cent and carbon emissions by a similar amount.
